GETTING AROUND
Albuquerque is divided into four main quadrants: the NE, NW, SE,
SW. Within those areas you have the Northeast Heights, Foothills,
and Far Northeast Heights in the NE, four hills, and the base in
SE, taylor ranch, north valley in the NW, and the Five Points, and
South Valley in the SW.
Uptown is a commercial/office park area near Coronado/Winrock Mall
area off of Louisana and I-40 in the NE Heights. The new outdoor lifestyle mall is also called ABQ Uptown and is located across Indian School Rd from Winrock and across Louisana St. from Coronado Mall. For a list of stores visit: http://www.abquptown.com/
The Bosque is the park/open space of cottonwoods surrounding the Rio Grande
River on both sides. This area is open to visitors to walk, and
bike riding when high fire danger isn't an issue.
EDO (East of Downtown) is the area east of downtown but west of
Nob Hill where trendy lofts and new restaurants are being built.
Nob Hill is the commercial area on Central Ave/Rte 66 near the University of New Mexico where the
shops and eateries are mostly retro-styled dating back to the era
of diners and the roots of Route 66. A must drive thru at night to admire the retro neon signs and pedestrian activity.
The Big Eye is the intersection of I-40 and I-25, and you will
hear this area talked about during traffic reports since traffic
bottlenecks here! Also recieves it's nickname from a nearby adult superstore visible from I-25 called the Big Eye.
The Five Points is in the South Valley on Bridge Blvd, where the five
intersections meet. Very close to the City Zoo and Tingley Beach.
Albuquerque has a couple nicknames: The Duke City, ABQ, Alba-quirky.
